Bugs on the outside and sweat on the inside
Caring for your motorcycle helmet is a daunting and tiresome task. You may not know where to store it or how to clean it properly so that it lasts for a long time.
Safety Counts
Having a well-maintained motorcycle helmet is essential for staying safe on the road. For your safety and those around you. Your motorcycle helmet is the most important piece of safety gear you own, and if you don't take good care of it, you could be putting your life at risk every time you ride.
Operationally Optimal
A well looked after helmet means it will deliver what it’s supposed to, optimally. Bad smells, poor vision and other problems with helmets add up to a bad and possibly dangerous ride.
Use simple materials BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
It ain’t rocket science and you will have most of what’s needed already in your home. Firstly however, make sure you follow any directions that come from the manufacturer of your helmet whether it is a detailed owners manual or simply something thrown in with the helmet when you bought it. You may end up voiding warranties or even doing permanent damage.
Materials needed:
- Microfiber towels or equivalent. It must be something that is not going to scratch the surface of your helmet or visor. Not sure? Then test a small area first.
- Toothbrush or similar with the softest bristles you can find.
- Baby shampoo like the Johnsons and Johnsons brand or similar, just make sure the ingredients are not petroleum based. Jump on Google if you have to.
- Large tub of warm water.
- Compressed air. NOTE: Do not use a can of compressed air.
